KITCHENER – Debbie Chapman, NDP Candidate for Kitchener Centre, is joining Ontario NDP calls for universal contraception as Marit Stiles’ Official Opposition bring the motion to debate at Queen’s Park.
“This is a long overdue initiative that I am incredibly excited to see being debated at Queen’s Park today,” said Chapman. “Marit Stiles’ Official Opposition have been strong advocates for this common sense solution that would help make life more affordable, and help millions of Ontarians make choices about their bodies and family plans.”
MPP Stevens tabled this motion for International Women’s Day in 2023. Today at Queen’s Park, she will be reading the testimony of hundreds of people who wrote to the Ontario NDP in support of this motion.
“Initiatives like this are exactly why I’m running to join the Official Opposition NDP,” said Chapman. “Universal, publicly funded contraception will make a huge impact in so many people’s lives, and it would be a real win for Ontario to get this passed. Together we can make it happen.”
The first six months of British Columbia’s universal contraception program has led to thousands of people, mostly between the ages of 20-29, receiving free birth control through their health care plan.
On November 21, Manitoba announced it will also provide universal contraception under their provincial health plan. The Ontario NDP are pushing to have Ontario do the same.
We're so happy to have you on the team. We'll be in touch soon.
